The Effects of Cultural Values on Learner Autonomy (PO9)
The interaction between cultural factors and learner autonomy has been an under-investigated area of research. This study examined how cultural variations in attitudes towards learning may affect levels of learner autonomy in an Omani EFL context. Results of a four-dimensional survey revealed significant differences between the cultural values of students and their instructors, suggesting that these cultural differences may be the reason for the difficulty in increasing levels of learner autonomy in Omani EFL classrooms.
