A Critical Perspective on “Best Practice in ELT” (PP30), Paper‘Best practice’ has been linked to providing quality, standardized and accredited ELT. However, little is known about the cultural, political and economic values underlying this controversial construct when applied in EFL contexts. This theoretical/conceptual-based talk provides a ‘fresh’ look at and problematizes such a contentious topic like ‘best practice in ELT’ and its adoption in Oman and suggests substituting ‘best’ with ‘SMART’ practice in the Omani ELT to help advance the field.
