Can we teach Critical Thinking explicitly? (PP80), Paper
It is often assumed that students pick up critical thinking skills implicitly in the course of their education. This interactive talk, however, discusses the need for explicit teaching of critical thinking. It shows how teachers can incorporate these skills into language courses, with particular reference to writing. Various activities which practise critical thinking skills are demonstrated. In addition, we discuss how students can learn to 'think about their thinking' by using 'thinking frameworks'.
