Doing ELT Differently: Promoting Learner Autonomy for Survival in 21stCentury (PP150), Paper

In today’s world, it has become increasingly crucial for learners to be able to think and learn autonomously. However, autonomous learning cannot be promoted in conventional classrooms where teaching remains rigidly teacher-fronted and exam-driven.

In this presentation, attendees will be introduced to current perceptions of learner autonomy and encouraged to reflect on their current practices in ELT and identify those practices which impede autonomy and do not actually prepare learners for the 21st century.
